
Google Quantum AI has unveiled Willow, its latest quantum chip with cutting-edge performance.
Willow achieves two major breakthroughs:
1. Exponential Error Reduction
Willow introduces quantum error correction technology that reduces errors as more qubits are added, solving a challenge the field has faced for 30 years.
2. Unmatched Computational Speed
Using the Random Circuit Sampling (RCS) benchmark, Willow completed a calculation in under five minutes—something that would take 10 septillion years on today’s fastest supercomputer, far exceeding the age of the universe.
With 105 qubits and state-of-the-art fabrication, Willow sets the stage for commercially relevant quantum algorithms. Google is optimistic that this chip will drive transformative advancements in science, energy, and AI.
